Revising vocabulary when you know minimum 2 foreign languages

Welcome to our new podcast series – 5-Minute Quick Revisions. Today we have a way for revising vocab in Armenian, Georgian and Azerbaijani

What is a quick revision? It’s a very short exercise for consolidating Georgian, Armenian or Azerbaijani that you can do anywhere. Often, without having to pull out your notes, books, etc.

The Caucasus podcast with and our new series of quick revisions you can listen to also in main podcasting platforms, including YouTube,  Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

Our course students tell us that revisions are very helpful, especially in weeks when they’re very busy. I use them regularly as well, as I told you in the last episode of the Caucasus podcast with the TOP 5 things that helped me most in learning in 2025. That’s why we’re moving our revisions from the newsletter to the podcast.

Do you ever feel like you want to say something in Armenian, Georgian, or Azerbaijani and only words from other languages come to your mind? It often happens that you want to say something in Armenian, Georgian or Azerbaijani and suddenly a word from another language pops in your head instead. Recently, I accidentally spoke Georgian to my Armenian teacher. And Armenian to my Azerbaijani teacher.

This is a normal brain function, and we can also help ourselves a bit by creating new connections in our heads. Sounds difficult? Now, on to today’s method on revising vocab and we’ll make it easier:

Quick way for revising vocabulary

First, recall from your memory 5-10 words you know in Georgian, Azerbaijani or Armenian and say their equivalents in another language you also know or you are learning. You can start with the basic words: yes, no, okay, I, you etc.

This creates additional connections inside the brain, and not only does it help us remember new words faster, but it also helps us recall the correct language more quickly, if we get confused by a word from another one.

If you’re already at a non-beginner level, you can reverse this exercise and translate the words into one of the Caucasian languages.

As promised, today’s method on revising vocab is quick; you can do it anywhere. Words I know in Armenian just came to mind: coffee, tea, window, they, car, computer, table, and I’ll say the same in Georgian and Azerbaijani.

As you can see, these don’t have to be super fancy phrases like the word preposterous or flabbergasted. Yes, this is my idea of fancy words in English. The important thing is to quickly review something.
