Will you eat this khinkali? – this sentence may be critical when fighting for the last khinkali left on the plate. That’s why it’s high time to learn how to say it in Georgian.
We have analysed in our articles the present form of the verb „to eat”, as well as the past of „to eat”. If you saw at least one of them, the future tense should look quite simple for you. We’ll at least try to show you its simplicity.
How to conjugate to eat in future?
Let’s start with the general rule. This type of verb as to eat, so შეჭმა has the შე– prefix and no ending like –ობ or –ებ. In this case we create the future tense by adding the შე– prefix to the form of present tense. And that’s it. So now let’s see how it looks like:
მე შევჭამ
შენ შეჭამ
ის შეჭამს
ჩვენ შევჭამთ
თქვენ შეჭამთ
ისინი შეჭამენ
The same way applies to the verbs, like to write – დაწერა (to write): მე ვწერ (I write), მე დავწერ (I will write). Isn’t it simple? That is one of the reasons why you should learn infinitive forms of the verbs. There are prefixes for example.
How to say „I will eat this khinkali”?
The good news is that the rules of building sentences with the verb „to eat” does not differ between present and future tense. Therefore sentence “I will eat khinkali” looks like that:
მე ამ ხინკალს შევჭამ.
Subject (so I) is in 1st case, but this what we eat (khinkali) stays in 3rd case, Dative. If you want to ask someone, will they eat this khinkali, you’ll say:
ამ ხინკალს შეჭამ?
The Georgian closed-ended questions (where the answer may be yes or no) are created using just intonations. The other typical questions you may hear with this verb is:
რას შეჭამ? – What will you eat?
In ths case we answer using the same pattern as we know from the sentence about khinkali.
Other question may be:
რომელ საათზე შევჭამთ? – Which time will you eat?
