Eating and drinking are the main parts of hosting the guests and being in the Georgian restaurant (next to toasts of course). That is why today we have prepared an article on how to conjugate those verbs and use them with additional phrases, which you’ll find below and hear in Georgian restaurant.
The verbs „to drink” and „to eat” in present tense conjugate similar to verbs like to do. It means, the subject is in the 1st case and the object (what we eat or drink) is in the 3rd case. Therefore, you’ll already know how to build such sentences correctly. More about cases will be available in the incoming articles.

How do you eat and drink in Georgian?
Today we’ll cover the conjugation only in the present tense with the next tenses to come. However, the forms of those verbs in imperfect tense are regular, so you may deduct it from the post about the imperfect also known as past continuous tense.
The verb to drink has two infinitive forms – სმა and დალევა. In present and imperfect we use the first one, if future and other tenses the root comes from the latter.
მე მას ვსვამ
შენ მას სვამ
ის მას სვამს
ჩვენ მას ვსვამთ
თქვენ მას სვამთ
ისინი მას სვამენ
Now let’s compare it with the conjugated verb to eat in Georgian, so ჭამა:
მე მას ვჭამ
შენ მას ჭამ
ის მას ჭამს
ჩვენ მას ვჭამთ
თქვენ მას ჭამთ
ისინი მასჭამენ
What can we eat and drink in Georgia(n)?
As you already know the verb forms, the time has come to learn products that one may use in sentences with those as well. Keep in mind that all the words describing what we eat and drink should be in the 3rd case. Therefore, if you eat khachapuri, you’ll say:
მე ხაჭაპურს ვჭამ. – I eat khachapuri.
Similarly we’ll say about beverages:
მე ყავას ვსვამ – I drink coffee.
