There are words that are independent on the time of the day or how official or familiar our relations are. There are also phrases that we use only till or from specific time of the day. It is not connected with any time of the day and it does not mean neither day nor good, which you may find surprising. The word is connected with the other one &#8211; <strong>\u10d2\u10d0\u10db\u10d0\u10e0\u10ef\u10d5\u10d4\u10d1\u10d0<\/strong> &#8211; which means victory. However, one does not translate it anyway near this meaning. It is more an equivalent of our good day.<\/p><p>Some of you may hear the other version of this word &#8211; <strong>\u10d2\u10d0\u10db\u10d0\u10e0\u10ef\u10dd\u10d1\u10d0\u10d7<\/strong> &#8211; which is perceived by some as more formal. However, this form is not fully grammatically correct, although many people use it. The word <strong>\u10d2\u10d0\u10db\u10d0\u10e0\u10ef\u10dd\u10d1\u10d0<\/strong> is not a verb. Thai si why,\u00a0 we do not add the formal endings of the verb to this word. One may say we use &#8222;Good morning&#8221; till 10:00 a.m. and &#8222;Good evening&#8221; after 6:00 p.m. However, please remember that those timeframes are quite subjective. Therefore it many depend on whom you\u2019ll ask you may get a different answer.<\/p><p>So let\u2019s learn them now:<\/p><p><strong>\u10d3\u10d8\u10da\u10d0 \u10db\u10e8\u10d5\u10d8\u10d3\u10dd\u10d1\u10d8\u10e1\u10d0<\/strong> &#8211; Good morning<\/p><p><strong>\u10e1\u10d0\u10e6\u10d0\u10db\u10dd \u10db\u10e8\u10d5\u10d8\u10d3\u10dd\u10d1\u10d8\u10e1\u10d0<\/strong> &#8211; Good evening<\/p><p>We do not really use Good afternoon as such. Instead, we\u2019ll say <strong>\u10d2\u10d0\u10db\u10d0\u10e0\u10ef\u10dd\u10d1\u10d0<\/strong>. Please note that both our phrases are constructed in a similar way. Firstly, there is a word indicating the time of the day (<strong>\u10d3\u10d8\u10da\u10d0<\/strong> &#8211; morning, \u00a0<strong>\u10e1\u10d0\u10e6\u10d0\u10db\u10dd<\/strong> &#8211; evening). After this there comes word \u10db\u10e8\u10d5\u10d8\u10d3\u10dd\u10d1\u10d8\u10e1\u10d0 that is from \u10db\u10e8\u10d5\u10d8\u10d3\u10dd\u10d1\u10d0, meaning peace.<\/p><p>As you may see the greeting in Georgian is connected a lot with victories and peace. When you think about the history of the region and Caucasian traditions, those connections are not that much of a surprise. We say this word towards our relatives and friends, as well as the people whom we address formally. There is a word <strong>\u10e1\u10d0\u10da\u10d0\u10db\u10d8<\/strong>, which comes from Arabic salam (like Salam Alejkum), but this is not commonly used phrase.
